The new adult romantasy novel Fate Demands Sacrifice by K.M. Davidson is the second book in The Sirians Series. I was provided a free copy of this book from the author as an advanced reader copy (ARC) in exchange for an honest review.
Synopsis
Reva continues in her desperate attempts to heal Clint, the young sick prince of Mariande. She turns from natural remedies to using her powers, beginning to understand how her abilities can battle the mass growing inside him. As she conducts further research about her powers and their origin, she learns about her mysterious past, the past of the kingdom where she now resides, and the past of her elusive mentor, the Great Karasi.
Alongside piecing together the truth about who she is, what her powers mean, and how she can save Clint, she must sort through her feelings for the kind Sir Finley and the sultry Crowned Prince Tariq. Her relationship with these men may forge or break the alliance she desperately needs to build with the Sirians who wield the Light because the Sirians wielding the Darkness are growing bold and attacking the innocent. Reva must be prepared for a brewing war she wants nothing to do with.
Review
If you loved Darkness Comes Again, you'll want to read Fate Demands Sacrifice. The second book in the Sirians Series will be released on November 25th, 2024.
Wow, just wow! I applaud the author for her ability to build an entire world from scratch, create complex characters, and tell the story in such a vivid and compelling way that kept me enthralled the whole time.
Reading her work is like watching a film play out in my mind. Others have mentioned in their reviews that her writing is like watching a film, and before I read Darkness Comes Again, I was skeptical, thinking, “Reading a book that’s like watching a movie? Impossible!” But no, her writing is literally like watching a film on a screen that has been implanted in my brain. In my experience from other books I’ve read, I can picture most of what’s happening, but sometimes I have to pause in my reading to gather the image. But with K.M. Davidson, it’s a fluid sequence of events that play out clearly in my mind, almost like a lucid dream. K.M. Davidson’s writing is one word: magical. I can only dream that the books I write hold the same substantial reading experience.
I love the characters, world-building, story, and aesthetic. I desperately want to know what happens next and cannot wait for the third book! The imagery is so vivid and I love how K.M. Davidson brings the scenery, characters, and magic system to life. I also love how she successfully provides each character with a distinct personality. New characters are introduced in this book, and the familiar ones are given more depth as their stories continue. Fate Demands Sacrifice is the perfect second installment of the Sirians Series.
Please note the content in this book may not be suitable for some audiences. If you're like me and love the world-building, magic system, and the characters of the Sirians Series but aren't too fond of graphic sex scenes, you'll want to skip over some paragraphs in chapters 15, 18, and 20. I received a digital copy that didn’t provide exact page numbers, just how much I had left in the chapter—for example, 1 out of 34. Although I cannot provide exact page numbers, I hope mentioning the chapters will suffice for those who want to read the book but are wary of such content.
Content Warnings
Explicit sexual scenes, violence, strong language, and crude dialogue.
